REACT THEATRE PRODUCTIONS are delighted to be the first company in Brighton to secure the rights to perform Leslie Bricusse and Frank Wildhorn's hit musical, ‘Jekyll & Hyde’. A true musical theatre phenomenon, Jekyll & Hyde attracted legions of loyal fans even before the show began its four-year smash-hit record breaking Broadway run. Since then it has been a major worldwide hit and now finally it has arrived in the UK.
This pulse-pounding interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde", first published in 1886, tells how a brilliant Victorian doctor, Dr Henry Jekyll, is forced to use himself as the subject of his scientific experiment with disastrous consequences. Convinced that the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of man's evil and good nature, he unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc on the streets of 19th Century London as the savage Edward Hyde. A monstrous being for whom even murder is a conscience-free pastime.
                     
Jekyll & Hyde is a rousing gothic musical, with that same macabre combination of fun and fright that fuels such classics as Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera. It has a lush, romantic pop score that includes the international hit ‘This is the Moment’ as its centerpiece along with ‘Once Upon a Dream’, ‘A New Life’, ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘In His Eyes’.

The show features a trio of star-making roles in compassionate Dr. Jekyll, his sympathetic fiancée Emma and Lucy, the woman he rescues from a life of sin who later succumbs to the uncontrolled passions of Mr.Hyde.

With music by Frank Wildhorn and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, this piece of theatre throbs with the pulse of today while evoking another time and place.

Brighton’s newest and most exciting directing team will front the production. Louis Craig has had a vast amount of experience on the musical stage and will direct. Jude Obermuller, a young musical talent from Brighton will Musical Director and conduct a full orchestra for the production, with electrifying choreography from the accomplished Katy Markey. All have proved a winning team having already produced ‘If Life Were a Musical ….!’ And the award winning production of ‘Les Miserables’ for the company.   

An energetic and talented cast will bring the story to life. A breathtaking set and costume design, magnificent lighting and sound will make this one of the most spectacular production Sussex has seen for years. An exciting theatre experiences you will not want to miss.

In a total contrast and to show our talented company off to the full, the following week we are producing four one night cabaret shows under the title of “Swing to the Movies & Musicals”. Each night will have a different theme, The Magic of the Movies, Celebration of the Swing Era, 100 years of Musical Theatre and finally a mixed Celebration Night. Each night promises to be an evening packed full of your favourite songs, so don’t miss this exciting week!
