Alan Skinner (Founder/Producer)
Alan is the founder member of React Theatre Productions. His love of the theatre goes back many years but in its early days it was just as a member of the audience as he has no talent what so ever in performing itself. Things took a dramatic change in 1994 when he saw a young performer by the name of Gary Lynn playing the lead role in BTG’s musical Oliver, taken back by his voice he had to find out more. This lead to Gary introducing Alan to local school teacher Darren Vallier who ran Starlite Theatre. After seeing their concert A Slice of Starlite and hearing some songs from a new musical he had written called Children of Winter, Alan approached Darren to say that he could have a potential hit on his hands and offered to take on all the marketing and development for future work for the group. The musical was developed and became A Ring of Roses, which went on to sell out at the Connaught Theatre in Worthing, showcased in London and an unforgettable performance at the Savoy Theatre in the heart of London's West End. Hot on its heels came Seize the Day once again a huge success also going to the West End and numerous concerts. In 1999 Darren wanted to concentrate on his writing more so Alan took over the group. A number of successful musicals and concerts followed right up till 2003 when Darren & Alan joined forces again to work on his latest musical In the Arms of Strangers (later, Journey of a Lifetime). Once again proved to be a smash with the audience locally and then going on to be performed at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End. After helping to bring Les Miserables to the Gardner Arts, Alan's involvement with Starlite ended but brought an exciting fresh challenge when starting React Theatre Production. He has gone on to directed Blood Brothers twice for the company, devised Swing to the West End and co directed their award winning production of Les Miserables. He looks forward to developing React into one of the most exciting company’s in the country. |
